Rewilding brings life back to the land. Biodiversity flourishes, threatened species re-establish, and greenhouse gases are sequestered in healthy soils and plants.
The Rewilding Collective is forming to support people to purchase and manage land as a group ~ we offer a blueprint detailing the necessary legal, financial and organisational structures, plus rewilding training and consultancy, to enable you to revitalise the ecosystems on your land.
We’ve developed sound legal, financial and governance frameworks that allow people to collectively purchase and manage land for rewilding and for regenerative agriculture purposes.
And we’re now open!
People looking for ways to positively impact the planet, rewilding enthusists and green investors can join us co-owning land and creating oases for nature recovery and peaceful havens for our members.
As of September 2024 we are evaluating properties suitable for rewilding in South Devon, we have £350,000 of pledged funds; the group to create the first site is forming and we are open to enquiries to help groups form for additional sites.
If you personally were to enable the rewilding of two and a half acres* of depleted land, that would offset your greenhouse gas emissions for decades...
Marginal land that has been intensively grazed will have very little plant, insect, animal and bird life present, so if the grazing stops there’s a huge surge in biodiversity which, over a few decades, evolves into a stable, flourishing ecosystem with broad regional impacts.
We favour areas over 80 acres to ensure grant funding can cover scientific monitoring costs and allow for diverse ecosystems to develop, but smaller sites can work well for some groups.
Each share will represent one acre and we expect the cost to be around £10,000.
Individuals, families or companies might opt to purchase multiple shares to support local ecosystems and mitigate their environmental impact, or small groups such as families or friends could come together to purchase a single share.
The value of land being purchased will be corroborated by a RICS surveyor on purchase and can be valued again should you wish to sell your shares.
There will be a restriction to ensure that no companies with questionable ethics purchase shares for ‘greenwashing’.
As the market for rewilded land is only just starting future land value cannot be gauged.
Our rewilding expert can support you to develop and implement a rewilding plan for your land.
Income from Biodiversity Net Gain, Environmental Land Management and other sources can be used to improve rewilding outcomes and cover expenses such as infrastructure maintenance, deer fencing, beaver enclosures, admin and consultancy services.
Everyone is invited to participate directly in the work on the land and the supportive tasks like applying for grants.
We have found using sociocracy to bring exceptional functionality and integrity to diverse working groups.
Sociocracy is a governance system that has been developed as a way for communities to organise themselves and manage power and decision making in fair and effective ways.
We will support your group to establish roles, agreements and processes to self-govern.
As a shareholder you will always be able to visit the land. Agreements around appropriate activities and behaviours can be created by the group.
Licence-exempt Camping Schemes are a way for members of an organisation to be able to camp on land for longer periods of time than normal government restrictions permit. We plan for our first site in Devon to be an educational base to support other groups as they form, so this site will definitely have visitor accommodation. Groups forming for other sites may choose to create glamping facilities both for their own purposes or to generate income.
UK planning legislation prevents living on undeveloped land, but where land with an existing dwelling is purchased, we envisage creating community cohousing through our partnership with www.regenerativecommunity.farm.
Groups can decide how much public access to grant, eg through permissive footpaths, or open days.
Land bought with our legal framework will be protected by a Section 103 Conservation Covenant so it can never be developed or intensively farmed.
As natural rewilded ecosystems develop, less and less human input is needed so labour become minimal.
We envisage investors being willing to take on the majority of work needed for each site as volunteers, but where there are costs these can be covered by ELM payments and income from glamping offered onsite.
We make sure that you, as an investor:
· legally co-own the land.
· get to physically make a difference.
· see clear impact.
· increase your knowledge of rewilding.
· can offset your greenhouse gas emissions.
· have a say in how the land and ecosystems are managed.
· have an opportunity to join our camping scheme so you can holiday on your land.
· can lease a growing area for fruit and vegetables, and share an orchard.
And our constitution as a charity ensures any income is used to improve rewilding outcomes.
